About Ivan Dutoit
Mr. Dutoit has read and analyzed over 5000 scripts over the years, providing script analysis for the Canadian Government Film agencies (Telefilm Canada, SODEC), producers and private parties. These agencies fund and executive produce some 50 new feature films every year and hundreds of projects in development. He specializes in story structure and what makes projects have global appeal. He has also been involved in story development for various production companies in Canada — meeting with writers, directors and producers to improve the quality, impact and commercial appeal of their projects. He has read and broken down the “formula” of most classics – from Chinatown, to Body Heat, E.T. and Titanic, uncovering what makes these screenplays/stories so universal and timeless.
In terms of script coverage, he specializes in short-form (3-5 pages) and long-form (providing a 25-page analysis basically breaking down every scene of a script to optimize rewrites). Mr. Dutoit has taken all the recognized screenwriting workshops both in Canada and Hollywood, improving his knowledge and skills over the years. He basically just loves the art of screenwriting and enjoy helping agents, producers and executives uncover the gems that will make great movies.
